Whether you are looking for short-term or long term storage you want to make sure that all of your possessions get the care they deserve. Here are the most important things to look for when choosing a storage provider:

Security:
You'll want to know that your belongings are safe and secure, so find out whether the warehouse has an alarm system, and whether there are full time warehouse staff overlooking the storage facilities.

Safety:
Make sure that all of your belongings are handled and stored safely.  Ask your storage provider for detailed information on how your goods will be stored.  Are they just left on the floor or are they stored properly on wooden storage pallets for safety and to protect from dust.

Cost:
Some storage companies charge by the weight of the goods you are storing, others charge by the number of wooden storage pallets that your goods take up in their facilities.  Make sure you find out which method of billing your storage provider uses.  As well, find out whether your storage fees include warehouse handling (moving your goods in and out of the warehouse) or whether additional charges will apply.

Climatized:
In climatized storage facilities, the temperature of the warehouse is controlled year round to protect wood and other delicate items.

Overstuffed Goods:
A good moving company will store all of your overstuffed possesions like large furniture on a couch rack.  First the goods will be wrapped in kraft paper to protect them from dust and then they will be stored on the racks to prevent indentations from other pieces of furniture.  Make sure your storage facility provides your furniture with the extra protection it deserves.

Insurance:
Find out whether the warehouse is insured against fire and theft.  It's always a good idea to get the name of the insurance company and to find out whether you can buy additional insurance for your goods.
